Serious Game for Knowledge Coproduction
The deployment of onshore wind power involves spatial sustainability trade-offs, e.g., between the minimization of energy system costs, the mitigation of impacts on humans and biodiversity, and interregional equity concerns. In order to explore which challenges arise for decision-making if wind power generation capacity has to be allocated spatially in the presence of such trade-offs, CoKnow co-developed a serious game approach together with the junior research group MultiplEE. During a workshop stakeholders had the opportunity to play a serious game during which they could allocate wind power generation capacity to German states. Not only was the game a huge success in fostering mutual learning and was much appreciated by stakeholders, but also the approach allowed us to co-produce publishable scientific knowledge.
